Maximise Your Gamma Spectroscopy Productivity

Discover the techniques for minimising background in your Germanium Detectors.

This presentation focuses on germanium-based gamma-spectroscopy systems, but the techniques described in this presentation also apply to other detector systems.

Reducing the background in your Germanium Detectors allows you to achieve lower MDA’s or reduce the measurement time to reach the desired MDA. Both options enhance the value of your spectroscopy system by making more sensitive measurements or increasing your overall sample throughput.

Our partner Mirion Technologies produces webinars on a regular basis, covering a wide variety of general radiation education topics and deep dives into specific products and software, we hope you find this presentation helpful.

Germanium Detectors are semiconductor diodes having a p-i-n structure in which the intrinsic (i) region is sensitive to ionising radiation, particularly x rays and gamma rays.

In this presentation, we will focus on techniques to reduce the background in your gamma spectroscopy system. Reducing the background allows one to achieve lower MDA’s or reduce the measurement time to reach the desired MDA. Both options enhance the value of your spectroscopy system by making more sensitive measurements or increasing your overall sample throughput. We will focus on germanium-based gamma-spectroscopy systems, but the techniques described in this presentation also apply to other detector systems.
